Guest Post: Black and Gold by Becky Yardley

Hi everyone! Becky Yardley here, an interiors blogger and colour addict.
I’m so excited to be guest posting on Brooke’s lovely blog today, thank you Brooke!

I wanted to show you some great treasures I found for creating a stylish black and gold interior.
Black is a dark and dramatic colour so it can be a little intimidating to think about using it indoors,
if you were a bit of a gothy teen like me then you’ll know exactly what I mean!
But this look is less “paint it black” and more
Coco Chanel meets Alice in Wonderland.

As an accent colour, black adds style and elegance to a room, think grown up and refined,
with a few playful hints to the rebellious teenager inside.

Keep it clean with crisp white walls for a sophisticated backdrop, add a few carefully
chosen deep black items and warm it up with gold to create a sophisticated finish.

For my mood board, I mixed it up with both contemporary pieces like a gold studded cushion along with more decorative items like the fancy French chair and black gothic mirror.

I hope you enjoy this look, for more inspiration please
visit Appliances Online blog where you can see more interior ideas from me!

Thank you

Random Beauty: Black + White + Gold

I hopped on my computer today and two thumbnail images on my desktop caught my eye.
I opened each on up and thought "that's weird. These images look really good together..."
Here is a little slice of the
RANDOM BEAUTY.

You know I love me some black + white + gold (a dash of Chanel doesn't hurt either)!

The top image I labeled as "sexy faucet."  Sorry I don't have the source for it.
The bottom photo is from the ever chic The Coveteur

Don't you love random acts of beauty?

Office Crush: Who What Wear via The Coveteur

I have recently discovered that  my favorite space to design is an office.
Weird huh?  I just love making a purely functional space efficient as well as beautiful.  When I stumbled across
WHO WHAT WEAR'S OFFICE
my adoration of chic work spaces was solidified.

I actually purchased this same vintage Chanel ad off eBay last week (it can also be seen here)! I'm framing mine with white mat and frame, but hey, great minds think a like.

Objet D'art: Designer Gift Bag

I have been on the lookout for great gallery wall inspirations since I'm in the process of redecorating my living room.  I have a black velvet sofa against a large white wall (it wouldn't be white if I had my way, but that's what I get for renting...).  I have always been obsessed with black and white photography but sometimes you just need to mix it up.  Lately I've been seeing designer shopping bags as objet d'art and I'm in LOVE!!

What a fabulous way to dress up a closet, no?

Even my favorite Million Dollar Decorator, Mary MacDonald used one for her client, Jill Roberts.

Ok, so I couldn't find a photo of the actual coral-colored bag that was pinned to the left on the over-sized bulletin board, but I had to post this amazing office. I. Die.

I'm jumping on the band wagon and I just placed a bid on eBay for this little beauty:

...fingers crossed, I'll win it!!

The plan is to arrange it with cut-outs from Jerry Schatzberg's 'Women Then: 1954-1969':

I seriously ADORE this book.  Since I am unable to find any Schatzberg prints anywhere (and I probably couldn't afford them if I did), I'm going to frame my favorite pages from the book I already own and re-order a new one for my coffee table.  Who said chic art had to be expensive?

Now to go frame shopping...

Hoppy Easter!

Wishing everyone a sunny and bright Easter weekend!

Chanel + Pink + Spring

I love Spring. I love pink. I love Chanel.  I couldn't decide which to post, so I am doing all three.  Enjoy!

The Elysian Hotel

An entire hotel inspired by the fashion salons of Dior and Chanel?  Yes, please!  I have seen random images of the Elysian Hotel in Chicago and each one has taken my breath away.  Gorgeous.  I never knew where the images were from until I ran across a link to the hotel's website.  Again, my breath was taken away.  When I die, this is what I envision heaven to look like.  Oh please, oh please, oh please let heaven be this beautiful...

"Coco Chanel once said, 'Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.' We couldn't agree more. That's why all of the Elysian's private residences are not only elegant and fine, they are warm and welcoming. After all, the Elysian is not just concrete and glass. It isn't just rooms and floor plans. The Elysian is a home of firsts and lasts. It's where time is measured by unforgettable moments. It's where the best experiences life has to offer are lived."  -elysiandevelopment.com

You can actually LIVE at the Elysian for the small starting price of $3,000,000.  Hey, it's a bargain compared to Kelly Wearstler's estate!  In my opinion the Elysian is much more livable, too.
