Black Basalt Infininty Sink Design Board

Matte black has been coming into vogue over the past year or so (remember this post?)
and I must admit, I'm a huge fan!  When I saw this
BLACK BASALT INFINITY SINK
for the first time, I had to wipe a little drool off my chin.
The basalt has a gorgeous understated matte finish that would be
great in a master bath or even a powder room.
I would style mine with a little Parisian Bistro edge with a lot more
matte black stone and antique brass:

In case you haven't noticed, I'm slightly obsessed with Mad Men.
This installment is about Don Draper's new
MINT + GOLD
front door. Rarr....

Guest Post: Black and Gold by Becky Yardley

Hi everyone! Becky Yardley here, an interiors blogger and colour addict.
I’m so excited to be guest posting on Brooke’s lovely blog today, thank you Brooke!

I wanted to show you some great treasures I found for creating a stylish black and gold interior.
Black is a dark and dramatic colour so it can be a little intimidating to think about using it indoors,
if you were a bit of a gothy teen like me then you’ll know exactly what I mean!
But this look is less “paint it black” and more
Coco Chanel meets Alice in Wonderland.

As an accent colour, black adds style and elegance to a room, think grown up and refined,
with a few playful hints to the rebellious teenager inside.

Keep it clean with crisp white walls for a sophisticated backdrop, add a few carefully
chosen deep black items and warm it up with gold to create a sophisticated finish.

For my mood board, I mixed it up with both contemporary pieces like a gold studded cushion along with more decorative items like the fancy French chair and black gothic mirror.

I hope you enjoy this look, for more inspiration please
visit Appliances Online blog where you can see more interior ideas from me!

Thank you

Louis Vuitton/Marc Jacobs Book Lust

I'm desperately awaiting the upcoming release of
LOUIS VUITTON/MARC JACOBS:
IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE MUSEE DES ARTS DECORATIFS, PARIS.

Holy banana pancakes, Batman!!!

Not only is the cover phenomenal, but the book covers the work of both
Louis V and Marc Jacobs, though their work is separated by about 100 years.

Is it March 6th yet?  'Cause... this needs to be on my coffee table NOW.

Pinterest: Brass Accents Paired With White

My Pinterest boards are not only filled with pieces with brass accents,
but I have realized I am especially drawn to
BRASS ACCENTS PAIRED WITH WHITE.

Isn't this quote fabulous?
I have it saved as my computer's background. It's easy to get lost in all the
beautiful things in the world and pine after them, but I need to remember that the things
I have are pretty great and I have a pretty darn great life.

I hope you are having a wonderful week!

eDesign: Modern Glam Living Room

I was contacted a few weeks back by the fabulous author over at P.S. I Love This
who needed some guidance on her formal living room.  Her home is already amazing.  I mean AMAZING.
I was so honored when she asked me to put together an eDesign board for her
MODERN GLAM LIVING ROOM.

Seriously, I have never met someone with such similar style to mine.  I kept telling my husband we have to be twins separated at birth. I would source an item for her design board, then peruse her blog and see a post about the EXACT product.  It's clients like her that make my job the best in the world!

Here are my favorite shots of her
STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL19th CENTURY HOME:

I am so blessed to even be a small part of this home!

Vintage Gold Wheat Sheaf Tables

Lately I've been seeing more and more
GOLD WHEAT SHEAF TABLES
popping up in design magazines and the blog-o-sphere
In France, wheat is a symbol of prosperity and wealth.  CoCo Chanel used wheat motifs throughout her 31 Rue Cambon apartment, including a gold wheat sheaf table:

After a little research, I found a few vintage pieces, mainly from the 40's-60's.
Look how glam this cocktail table is:

So pretty and perfect for Fall!

Objet D'art: Lucite Curtain Rod with Gold Square Rings

When Mies van der Rohe stated "God is in the details" he definitely knew what he was talking about.
You can turn a boring piece (or room for that matter) from stale and boring to an automatic
"WOW!" just by adding the right details.

I'm not too ashamed to admit I had to rub a little dribble off my chin when I spotted this
LUCITE CURTAIN ROD
with gold square rings.

The rings are SQUARE!! SQUARE I tell you! How awe-inspiring is THAT?  These have officially made my 'will-own-one-day' list.  God definitely had a hand in creating this little Lucite beauty.

Can This Be Made Into A Room? Layered Michael Kors Watch and Bracelets

We all know I am in love with my
MICHAEL KORS GOLD RUNWAY WATCH
Even when I'm in sweatpants and white t-shirt, I still feel chic and sexy with the ginormous watch hanging on my wrist.  I even told my husband that besides my wedding ring and my red convertible, it's my favorite thing I own.  Over the past few weeks, I've been seeing it EVERYWHERE in the fashion blog world and I went a little bonkers when I came across this image:

Drool...

This girl is crazy beautiful and layered to perfection.  I own the watch, chunky chain bracelets, and a comfy cowl neck sweater.  Now I need more leather/gold bracelets and a distressed leather Birkin (like THAT will ever happen...) to create the uber layered look I've heard referred to as an 'arm party.'

This look can be easily translated into your home, as well.  Here's a little design board I threw together:

Sigh... if only I had a different home for each season.  THIS would be my Fall retreat in a heartbeat.

House Crush: Domicile Interiors Apartment

You may have come across the home of Jolene Ballard of Domicile Interiors before, but it is too gorgeous not to re-post.  The retro-meets-feminine-modern is TOTALLY my style, (if I was a single gal. Not that my husband for ban pink walls and milk glass vase collections, but I try to be considerate that our home is his space too).  Most of the pieces are either vintage finds or custom made, to really reflect Jolene's personal style.  This home is banana-crazy beautiful.

Cowhide Rugs: Not Just for the Country

Maybe it is still that little bit of Texas I can't get out of my blood but lately I've been loving anything and everything cowhide.  Since the first half of the 20th century, cowhide rugs have been a classic element for any chic home.  With the variety of colors and finishes available on the market,  most everyone can find a hide to fit their style.

Neutrals:

Metallic Silver:

Metallic Gold:

I think hair-on-hide rugs are the perfect solution when you have a small space or a large beautiful solid surface floor which need a little warming up but you don't want to cover too much real estate.  Use them in a grand master bath, at the corner of a king size bed, or to ground a little seating vignette.

If a rug shaped like the animal it use to be isn't your thing but you still want to add a little hair-on-hide in your home, try upholstering a vintage piece in cowhide:

Circa 1960s

Circa 1950s

Circa 1970s

Can you tell I'm obsessed??
