Small Space Solution: Puzzle Tables

Besides nesting tables, another great solution to add more flexibility to a small space are
PUZZLE TABLES.

To me, they are all about the cool factor.
These are the not-quite-as-functional but super stylish cousin to the nesting table.
Puzzle tables can be bunched together for a large surface area or broken up into small sections.

Quite the conversation starter, no?

French Dining Chairs with Unfinished-Finished Backs

My jaw dropped when I came across this image of these
FRENCH DINING CHAIRS WITH UNFINISHED-FINISHED BACKS.
(Could that be the most awkward description of a chair? Possibly...)

French Neoclassical Dining Chairs with Unfinished Finished Backs

I adore this unexpected twist to the timeless Neoclassic frame.
I have been hemming and hawing over dining chairs for YEARS now
(literally, I've never used my dining table due to the lack of chairs),
and I think these won my heart!

Here the chair frame I have my eye on, finished in a creamy white:

and maybe upholster the seats in faux shagreen?

RAAAARRRR.... So sexy...

Greek Key Inspired Style

I have a confession. I'm a design dork.
When I'm down and need a little pick-me-up, sometimes I'll create
DESIGN BOARDS.
When I do this I like to use furniture that I will most likely never be
able to work with because of the price tag.

Here is one of those boards I created with a mix of designer vintage pieces in an achromatic palette.
I know gray has been around for awhile but I'm still enamored with this fabulous neutral.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm slightly obsessed with Mad Men.
This installment is about Don Draper's new

Love It Leave It: Asymmetrical Furniture

I have started to notice a new design detail showing up in pieces that catch my eye.
As a designer I like the lines of the pieces I work with to be tailored, purposeful and polished.
Who says the lines have to be perfect though?
Adding in a funky unexpected element to a piece gives a fresh new take on classic silhouettes.

What do you think?

Shades of Peach

Along with mint, I have been obsessed with
SHADES OF PEACH
this Spring.

Here's a combo of a painting and lamp that ended up being pinned by each other,
creating a wonderful happy accident vignette:

I know this is an iffy color for most.
WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON PEACH?

eDesign: Modern Glam Living Room

I was contacted a few weeks back by the fabulous author over at P.S. I Love This
who needed some guidance on her formal living room.  Her home is already amazing.  I mean AMAZING.
I was so honored when she asked me to put together an eDesign board for her
MODERN GLAM LIVING ROOM.

Seriously, I have never met someone with such similar style to mine.  I kept telling my husband we have to be twins separated at birth. I would source an item for her design board, then peruse her blog and see a post about the EXACT product.  It's clients like her that make my job the best in the world!

Here are my favorite shots of her
STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL19th CENTURY HOME:

I am so blessed to even be a small part of this home!

The Dark Side of Pinterest

Yesterday a friend and I were discussing all the styles of interiors found on Pinterest.
In her opinion, all the pins were too light and airy.
She wants to see more dark, warm, moody interiors with character

In honor of my friend, here is
THE DARK SIDE OF PINTEREST.

I am still enamored with the off-black look that is happening right now.
Dark is SEXY, no?

White Washed Brick

Every modern space needs a touch of something old.
When I am creating a room from scratch, I try to find a way to add in a
vintage piece of furniture or some architectural materials that add a sense of history to a space.
What could be better than
WHITE WASHED BRICK?

It punches up the ubiquitous white subway tile a bit, don't you think?
The rough brick is the perfect contrast to the sleek lacquered cabinets.

Modern Masculine Chic

I love boys.  I love boys with style.
I love interiors that are clean and tailored with a dabble of boyish ruggedness.
Here is a collection of images I like to deem as
MODERN MASCULINE CHIC.

Most people think of furs as glamorous and feminine but
look how amazing they are when styled more manly. Rarrr...

Oh, uhh.... sorry.  I have masculine chic on my mind and, uh... ya... Ryan's hot.
Ok, back to hot rooms...

Let's here it for the boys!

Shine by S.H.O.

I am always on the look out for pieces of furniture that are clean and classic
but with some unexpected twists. When I stumbled across
  SHINE BY S.H.O.
I feel head over heals.  Take the classic wingback, for example.
The wingback has been around for centuries dating back to the old European estates
(designed to lock in the warmth of a fireplace).  Shine cleaned up the ornamentation, exaggerated
a few sexy curves and BINGO! A modern take on a classic piece:

They did the same with a French settee:

a chaise lounge:

and a Greek Key side table:

A good wallop of white doesn't hurt either!
What do you think?  Do you like putting a twist on a classic piece
or is it a travesty to mess with a good thing?

Guest Post: Modern Bar Carts and Accessories

Hi! My name is Jenn and I am a writer for Design Shuffle, a popular social media and networking website that follows the work of top interior designers and interior design trends worldwide. Every day I get to write about home decor and scour the web for inspiring websites, and one that I’ve had bookmarked for some time is The Modern Sophisticate, where the posts are beautiful and always creative.
I was so happy when I heard I’d be guest posting here today and blogging about
MODERN BAR CARTS AND ACCESSORIES.
 Thanks for having me!

Sometimes what may seem like a small detail is actually the aspect of a space that truly defines it. Such is the case with modern bar carts and accessories. Streamlined and elegant, a well-stocked bar cart is not only welcoming but a stylish home decor idea too. Here are eight stunning modern bar carts and accessories.

  Glass Bar Cart

A bar cart in glass is ideal because it mimics the glass bottles it displays. Here, the lower shelf is used for liqueurs while the top half is a display shelf.

  Modern Bar Cart

A brass bar cart is decked out with modern-day features like a built-in wine glass rack and bottle holder. The wall hanging and red chair give this vignette some colour and character.

  Steel Bar Cart Design

This great room begs to play host - the stainless steel bar cart looks stately below the mounted ceramic deer head, and the adjoining kitchen design includes a sleek bar table with contemporary chairs.

  Acrylic Bar Cart Accent

A trendy acrylic bar cart somehow fits in with this somewhat dated space - the chrome frame gives the piece loads of metallic allure.

  Bar Cart Accent

This sterling silver gem, with glistening cocktail shakers and double wine buckets on the end of the cart, make for a distinguished modern bar cart and accessories.

  Industrial Bar Cart

Need dining room design ideas? An industrial-infused bar cart such as this is a great accent and usability to your dining room design.

  Bar Cart Accent

What’s so interesting about this modern bar cart set-up is not only its circular configuration but also the beverage-inspired drink prints on the walls above it.

  Luxe Modern Bar Cart

Living room designs with a luxe modern bar cart and accessories in black and steel can look  fashionable as well as practical when topped with a grand slab of marble. [ Images 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8
